A masterpiece in its own category is what this colorful dark movie is. An attempt to depict the life story of a boy whose life has been a journey from the slums of Mumbai (India) till he wins the Indian version of "Who wants to be a millionaire". Danny Boyle is perfect in portraying the lifestyle of the people living in poverty in the metropolitan city.
The movie could be categorized as a love story at heart, but is a mean thriller that shows how a boy wins millions of rupees by answering questions from his own personal experiences. The screenplay is extremely crisp taking the viewer from present to past back and forth throughout the movie. The editing never makes the viewer confused or at any point does one miss the point that the story is explaining about the different characters mainly focusing on the main character that is Jamal.
The actors are perfectly cast for each role. Be it the main character or the policemen that allege and interrogate him for cheating in the game show, or the love interest of Jamal, or his elder brother. Each character does complete justice to the respective role especially the veteran actors like Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, or Saurabh Shukla who are mainstream Bollywood actors.
The music composed by the Bollywood maestro A.R.Rahman is in complete sync with the screenplay and is deserving to win the oscars. It takes the viewer and the story forward so smoothly and really pumps the blood in the script. The story so crisply written that one looks forward to the happenings and never gets a clue what is about to uncover ahead. The director Danny Boyle (28 days later, Sunshine) has complete control of his characters and story and knows what he wants and shows his experience and the reason why he is so good.
The different aspects he shows in the movie, be it the love angle, or about the destiny, or about defeating the odds, relates to a common man and is realistic in every sense. I believe this is one of the finest British Indian movies to come out and I strongly urge everyone to check it out. Every single oscar nominee for this movie is what this movie deserves!
